September Beauty Swaps
Summer is ending which means its time to swap out our lighter weight summer favorites for some richer options.
Fall brings a drop in humidity and dryer, cooler weather. Just as we switch up our wardrobe for the season, its necessary to swap up your skincare routine. During the Summer, there's much more moisture in the air to keep skin hydrated. Stale air and artificial heat (thanks a lot heaters) disrupts the skin's barrier and leads to a loss skin moisture.
Here are a few tips to combat any Autumn skin-related troubles!
1. Bulk up your moisturizer!
To compensate for the change in humidity in the air, say bye (for now) to your lightweight gel moisturizers. Thicker creams, especially at night, can help add more moisture during these dry months and can also protect from pesky winter eczema.
2. Don't forget your body.
It's easy to forget about moisturizing the skin on your body during Summer (and sometimes too much can make you sweat!) Skin can start to feel more itchy due to the dry air and making sure to add a body lotion or oil to the mix can help hydrate.
3. Keep using sunscreen.
Sunscreen should be a vital step in your skincare routine every single day of the year! Though UV radiation is at its peak during the summertime, its present throughout the whole year. If your skin isn't super fair, feel free to stick to an SPF 30.
4. Dial back the active ingredients.
When your skin is particularly red, dry, itchy, and irritated, it's important to not put your skin through any additional stress. Active ingredients such as retinol or acids can be really easy to over-do and can cause already troubled skin even more freak-outs. The best rule of thumb when your skin is stressed, it's best to keep it simple and stick to the basics until your skin calms down.
5. Lips, lips, lips!
Another step that can be overlooked during the summertime is lip care. Just like your skin, your lips are more prone to dryness and cracking during the winter. Keep them nourished with a great moisturizing balm and buff away dry flaky skin with a gentle exfoliator.
